If The Sun Don’t Shine

Listen

I woke up to sunlight in waves across my bed.
And only yesterday I thought tomorrow I’d be dead.
I’d like to know the one who put those thoughts inside my head,
’Cause when I’m with you I think I’ll never die.

But if the sun don’t shine,
I pray you’ll still be mine
And help me walk that line,
If the sun don’t shine.

Sometimes when someone tells a joke, I forget to laugh.
Sometimes I think a chainsaw man has cut my heart in half.
Sometimes I dream it’s World War III, and I die in the aftermath.
But when I’m with you I think I’ll never die.

But if the sun don’t shine,
I hope you’ll still be mine,
And help me walk that line,
If the sun don’t shine.

If you leave a man alone at night,
With nothing but his mind,
You know he’ll see the strangest things.
He might believe he’s blind.
But give a man an ounce of love
For things there ain’t no cure,
He’ll probably write a song for you
And believe that he’s secure.

I woke up in sunlight. I was dancing in my room.
I was jumping on my mattress like there’d be no day of doom.
I swept those demons right away with you, my magic broom,
‘Cause when I’m with you I think I’ll never die.

But if the sun don’t shine,
I pray you’ll still be mine,
And help me walk that line,
If the sun don’t shine,
Promise you’ll be mine,
And help me cross that line,
In case that I’m inclined
To leave this world behind,
If the sun don’t shine,
Say that you’ll be mine.
